The Blog Era might be the greatest era in hip-hop—there, I said it. Not only was it the glory days of discovering new artists, but it also felt like the last true frontier. More importantly, it was a time when music actually had a home—somewhere beyond the endless scroll of playlists on your favorite DSP.Two people who capture that era would be Wiz Khalifa and MGK. The two rappers who teamed up for a new single called Girl Next Door.
The video starts off with two baddies moving in, and Wiz and MGK bro-ing out by lifting weights and doing bro ish. The Black and Yellow rapper kicks off the song with his vintage flow that made his Kush and Orange Juice mixtape skyrocket to popularity. The song has a hip pop vibe, and really provides a bop. MGK is next up to spit over the SlimXX, BazeXX, and No Love For The Middle Child, Produced track that samples indie electronic duo Sweet Trip. The melodic flow and witty bars makes me want to listen to this one over and over again. Someone dust off my iPod nano.
