DreamDoll – Too Established / Maybelline (REVIEW)

DreamDoll asserts her dominance in the dual-track release Too Established / Maybelline, a cinematic experience directed by Gerard Victor that contrasts high-society chess moves with raw New York City street energy. The project serves as a definitive “closing argument,” where she dismantles rumors and copycat artists to reclaim her position as the industry’s blueprint.

A Vintage Aesthetic Meets Modern Chess

DreamDoll delivers a flow heavily inspired by The Notorious B.I.G., with a touch of Lil’ Kim (which, in itself, feels like a nod to the Biggie era). The inclusion of DJ Clue vocals in the background adds a nostalgic, vintage texture that transports listeners back to the glory days of hip-hop.

While the chess pieces in the foreground of the video highlight her tactical mindset, one has to wonder. Is she a master of the Queen’s Gambit? Would she fall victim to a classic London Opening? Regardless of the opening, her presence in that candlelit study suggests she’s the one controlling the board.

The Pivot: “Maybelline” and the “Only You” Homage

At the 1:43 mark, the energy shifts. A new DJ cuts in, the tempo accelerates, and we transition into “Maybelline.” The visual of DreamDoll in a Honda racing jacket is a clear, stylish homage to the iconic 112 “Only You” remix featuring Mase and Biggie.

Lyrically, she pulls no punches, proclaiming herself the mother to this generation of “rap chicks.” Adding, they have relied on copy-and-paste antics during her absence. She delivers a final, hilarious blow by telling her imitators to the following. “Ask their mother who their daddy is.” Fatality!
